About Mr. Heinrichs

As you already know, my name is Mr. Heinrichs and I am a teacher at Summit Middle.  I have been teaching in Coquitlam for 13 years and have experience at the elementary level as well as teaching information technology.  I come from a family of teachers.  My father also taught in Coquitlam.  My wife Erin, currently on maternity leave, is also a teacher in the district. Both of her parents were teachers, and her sister is as well.

If you have been to my classroom you will know that there are two things that I am passionate about, other than teaching.  The first is my family.  At the moment, Erin and I have three sons.  Their names are James, Ben and Sam.  I just love being a dad.  My boys are a constant source of amazement and laughter for me.  Becoming a dad has change my life in numerous ways and hopefully has made me a better teacher.  James is 5 and starting kindergarten this year.  Ben is 2 and his vocabulary is expanding by leaps and bounds.  Sam is now 5 months old, has two teeth and is a very content little(actually very big for his age) guy.

The other thing that I am passionate about is photography.  I love the artful process of taking a photo.  You will see me with my camera around the school a lot this year.   I have many photos up in my room and maybe you will make my wall of fame this year.

Parents this site is not just for your children.  Please check it frequently to stay up to date with what we are doing and to see examples of what we do in class.  As well, you need to know that my door is always open.  If you need to get a hold of me you can phone, drop by or email.  As well, I have a page of resources and videos that are thought provoking.  Education is rapidly changing, like the world around us, and it's good to think about how this will impact our kids.

I believe this is going to be another great year in Division 19!

Here are some photos from my summer.  We had a great time camping at Hicks Lake near Harrison Hot Springs and at Alice Lake near Squamish B.C.  I think you will agree that it looks like the boys had a lot of fun camping.
